“Cybercrime Crackdown: Nigeria Police Recover N8.8bn, USDT 115,237, and $84,000 in 2024”
The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) has made a major breakthrough in the fight against cybercrime, recovering a staggering N8,821,001,881.80, 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 from cybercriminals in 2024.
This remarkable achievement was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who hailed the operation as a significant step in restoring justice to victims of cyber fraud.
Adejobi explained that the recovered amounts have already been restituted to the victims, underlining the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding citizens from digital fraud and ensuring justice for those affected.
The year 2024 has been a productive one for the NPF-NCCC, with the Cybercrime Unit executing strategic operations that led to the arrest and prosecution of over 751 individuals involved in cybercrimes.
The unit also seized 685 devices used in cybercriminal activities, including:
- 467 mobile phones
- 137 laptops and computers
- 46 routers
- 4 servers
- 1 drone
- 4 Starlink devices
In addition to electronic devices, the unit dismantled the infrastructure supporting these nefarious operations. Recovered assets include:
- 16 houses
- 39 plots of land
- 14 land documents
- 26 vehicles
These confiscations strike a heavy blow against the financial and operational networks of cybercriminals in Nigeria.
The NPF-NCCC’s outstanding performance has not gone unnoticed. The unit was awarded the prestigious Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa for 2024 by the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore. This recognition places the unit at the top among 54 participating African countries, showcasing Nigeria’s growing capacity to tackle digital crimes effectively.
Beyond asset recovery, the NPF-NCCC continues to intensify efforts to secure the digital space. In its latest operation, the unit apprehended four suspects for various cyber-related offences. The individuals, identified as Douglass Victor, Egbo Efe Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody, are being investigated for their roles in fraudulent online activities.
“These achievements reflect the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force to fighting cybercrime and enhancing the safety of citizens in the digital space,” Adejobi stated.
The Police have reiterated their resolve to remain at the forefront of cybercrime prevention, prosecution, and victim restitution. These efforts, coupled with international recognition, serve as a testament to the Force’s determination to make Nigeria’s cyberspace safer for all.
