The Nigerian Armed Forces arrested 18 suspects linked to crude oil theft worth N793.2 million in just one week. This aggressive crackdown is part of the military’s intensified efforts to combat oil theft in the South-South region.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) revealed the arrest in an operational update, spotlighting the military’s success in curbing illegal activities.
In addition to stopping oil theft, troops neutralised 118 terrorists and apprehended 97 suspects involved in other crimes nationwide.
The military also rescued 96 kidnapped hostages, further showcasing their commitment to restoring peace and security across the country.
Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that troops confiscated 87 weapons and 2,244 rounds of ammunition. “In the Niger Delta, we destroyed illegal refining sites and seized large quantities of stolen crude oil and refined products,” Buba said.
Over 600,000 litres of crude oil and nearly 13,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) were recovered during the operations.
Among the recovered weapons were one PKT gun, one PKM, 43 AK47 rifles, and several other firearms. Troops also seized mobile phones, vehicles, and cash totalling N778,560.
The military has emphasised its resolve to dismantle terrorist networks and criminal infrastructure, with operations continuing in key areas nationwide.
Buba stressed that new strategies are being adopted to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians. “The troops will continue to make gains on multiple fronts, addressing oil theft, terrorism, and insecurity,” he added.
This intensified action by the military sends a clear message: Nigeria’s resources will be protected, and criminals will be held accountable.
