Nigerian Senate to Screen New Service Chiefs, Ambassadorial Nominees

On Wednesday, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, referred to the Joint Committees on the Army, Navy, and Air Force for screening the proposal of the President, Major General, Muhammad Buhari, (retd.) for confirmation of new service chiefs.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan gave the committees two weeks to carry out their duties and report to the plenary Senate.

Maj. Gen. Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea Lrabor, Chief of Defense Staff, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao, Chief of Air Staff, are the appointees for confirmation.

They are to succeed General Abayomi Olonisakin, former Chief of Defence Staff; Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas, Chief of the Naval Staff; and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff.

On Wednesday, Lawan also ordered the Foreign Relations Committee to screen as career ambassadors the immediate past service chiefs that Buhari had named.
