Northern Senators Forum Urges Youths to Remain Calm Amid Protests
The Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF) has called for calm and restraint from youths amid the ongoing nationwide protests.
The appeal came in a statement released by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, Chairman of the NSF, on Saturday in Abuja.
The NSF acknowledged the challenges facing the country but assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is diligently working to address them. The statement highlighted the importance of peaceful protests but also noted the tendency for demonstrations to escalate into violence.
“The ongoing protests have unfortunately led to loss of lives and property in several states, prompting the imposition of curfews,” the statement read.
“Despite numerous appeals from respected figures and religious leaders urging alternative approaches to dialogue with the government, violence has persisted.”
Senator Yar’adua urged organizers of the protests to reflect on the initial day’s events and consider more constructive ways to address grievances. He emphasized that President Tinubu is aware of the nation’s difficulties and has been proactive in seeking solutions.
The statement outlined several government initiatives, including the increase in the minimum wage, social welfare schemes such as cash transfers and the N110 billion National Youth Investment Fund, and educational loans for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Additionally, President Tinubu’s administration has established the North West and South East Development Commissions to promote grassroots development.
Senator Yar’adua urged patience, noting that the current administration is only one year into its tenure. He encouraged engaging with the government through dialogue to address concerns and contribute to shaping a better future for Nigeria.
“Remember, you are the future leaders of Nigeria, and it is your responsibility to guide our nation’s destiny with wisdom and patience,” he concluded.
