NTAC Boss Hails Tinubu’s Worker Incentives as New Cooperative Exco Inaugurated
The Director General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Yusuf Buba Yakub, has highlighted the importance of President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives for Nigerian workers.
He said one of the key ways to achieve these objectives is by setting up multipurpose cooperative societies in government offices.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Buba noted that President Tinubu’s schemes, which include housing and loan access for civil servants, will help workers improve their performance and reduce corruption.
He emphasized that creating cooperatives in workplaces across Nigeria would ensure the full impact of these policies is felt.
Buba also pledged full support from NTAC management for the newly elected leadership of the NTAC Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
The new leaders were chosen through a democratic process among the staff.
“This is the first time the minimum wage has increased to ₦70,000, and it will now be reviewed every three years instead of five,” Buba said.
“President Tinubu has stated that workers need housing schemes through a mortgage system. They also need credit schemes to access loans easily and meet daily needs without relying only on salaries.”
He added that the new cooperative leaders will receive all necessary support to improve the welfare of NTAC workers.
He shared plans to introduce a transport system for staff, with more initiatives to follow once the cooperative is fully established.
During the inauguration, NTAC’s Director of Administration, Yakubu Abdullahi Ahmed, represented by Mr Samuel Etefia, expressed gratitude to the DG for making the establishment of the cooperative a reality.
Buba encouraged the new executive to prioritize clear communication with staff and involve them in all programs.
He also reminded them that leadership brings challenges, but he was confident the team led by Mr Martin Ogbonna would succeed.
In his speech, Mr Ogbonna, the newly elected Chairman, thanked the NTAC management and staff for their support during the election process.
He promised to push the cooperative forward and called on staff to back his programs, which include training, farming, business ventures, and providing buses for members.
The newly inaugurated leaders include Martin Ikechukwu Ogbonna as Chairman, Mercy Chama Anuhu as Vice Chairman, Faith Omotayo Jesufemi as Secretary, Uzoamaka Scholastica Ohaeri as Treasurer, and Barnabas Yerima as Public Relations Officer.
The event was attended by NTAC officials including Director of Programmes, Zakari Usman, Assistant Director for Accounts, Idris Saidu Yusuf, and Special Assistants to the DG, Mr Lawandy Bala and Abdulkadir Iliyasu Esq.
A key moment during the event was when the former placeholder, Mr Samuel Etefia, handed over the cooperative society’s registration documents to Mr Ogbonna. The new executive will serve for two years.
