NYSC Corps Members to Receive Huge N77,000 Monthly Pay

NYSC Corps Members to Receive Huge N77,000 Monthly Pay
Nigerian corps members are set to receive a major financial boost as the Federal Government has approved an increase in their monthly allowance to N77,000, starting from February 2025.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, announced the development on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State.
He assured the corps members that the budget for the new allowance had been included in the 2025 Federal Government budget, and once passed, the payment would commence immediately.
“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” Ahmed stated.
The announcement sparked excitement among corps members, who had been eagerly anticipating an increase in their stipend due to rising inflation and economic challenges. The Federal Government’s decision to more than double their pay is seen as a major boost for young graduates participating in the mandatory one-year national service.
Security of Corps Members is a Priority
Beyond the financial benefits, the NYSC DG emphasized that the safety and welfare of corps members remain a top priority. He assured them that no corps member would be posted to communities experiencing security threats.
“We will not send our corps members to wherever we have security challenges. Wherever we send them, they should be rest assured that the place is safe and secured for them to serve,” he reassured.
Ahmed added that the NYSC is constantly assessing security situations across the country and will ensure that all corps members are deployed to only safe and stable locations.
Corps Members Urged to Serve Diligently
In light of the increased allowance, the NYSC boss urged corps members to reciprocate the government’s gesture by serving diligently during their service year. He encouraged them to make meaningful contributions to their places of primary assignment and uphold the values of the scheme.
The increase in allowance comes at a crucial time when many young Nigerians face financial difficulties due to the economic situation in the country. The move is expected to boost morale, encourage productivity, and enhance the overall NYSC experience.
The approval of N77,000 as the new corps members’ stipend aligns with the government’s broader efforts to support youth development and empowerment. Many corps members have already taken to social media to express their excitement, with hashtags like #NYSCAllowance, #CorpsMembersPayRaise, and #N77kAllowance trending online.
The NYSC scheme, established in 1973, continues to play a critical role in national integration, youth development, and community service across Nigeria. The new allowance increase is expected to further motivate young graduates to participate actively in the scheme and make positive impacts in their host communities.
With this major financial boost, corps members can now look forward to a more comfortable and fulfilling service year. The NYSC leadership remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new payment structure and addressing any concerns that may arise.
