Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, expressed dissatisfaction on Saturday after security officers in Makurdi, the state capital, prevented him from seeing Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The governor was denied access to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in the state capital, where he was supposed to receive Vice President, who was on his way to Jalingo, Taraba State, for the Federal University, Wukari's graduation ceremony.

Ortom said he received a letter from the State House stating that Osinbajo would travel through Makurdi en route to Taraba state for the convocation event, according to his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur.

"Politics taken too far," he said of the security agents who prevented him from visiting the Vice President.

Ortom said:
“Unfortunately, on getting to the main gate of the air force, security personnel at the entrance said the governor’s convoy won’t be allowed in because according to them, they were not informed about the governor’s visit to the base to receive the Vice President.

The governor was perplexed as to why he was being treated so badly by air force troops in the state where he serves as the state's Chief Security Officer.

He promised to bring the situation to the Vice President's attention and take appropriate measures, emphasizing that politics and government should be kept apart.
