PHOTOS: WTO DG Okonjo-Iweala makes official visit to Nigeria

This is her first visit to Nigeria since she assumed office two weeks ago.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the President's Chief of Staff, escorted her to the meeting with the President, along with Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Niyi Adebayo, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was also present at the meeting.

Bashir Ahmad, the President's Personal Assistant for New Media, also tweeted her arrival at the Presidential Villa.

President Buhari nominated Okonjo-Iweala, 66, as Nigeria's nominee to head the World Trade Organization (WTO) in June 2020.

In February 2021, she became the first woman and the first African to head the international body, and her term began on March 1 and would last for the next four years.

The term will end on August 31, 2025, and it is renewable.
