Lagos Police Chief Launches Bold Campaign Against Crime, Parades 98 Suspects
Ishola Olanrewaju, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, has declared a vigorous campaign against crime, vowing to “smoke out” criminals from the state.
During his first media briefing on Wednesday, he showcased 98 suspected criminals and emphasised a proactive approach to dismantling criminal networks across Lagos.
Olanrewaju outlined plans to collaborate with road transport unions to tackle “one-chance” robberies, a prevalent issue affecting commuters. He announced that all commercial buses will be clearly labelled, making it easier for passengers to identify the vehicles they are boarding.
“Whoever enters a bus must know the bus they are boarding,” he stated, highlighting the significance of this initiative in enhancing public safety.
The Commissioner also detailed the results of several well-coordinated police operations that have disrupted criminal activities in Lagos. These operations have led to the arrest of suspects involved in various offences, including armed robbery, cult activities, abduction, and drug trafficking.
Among the notable confiscations were arms, drugs, stolen goods, firearms, ammunition, $402 in cash, and 39 sacks of stolen rice, illustrating the extensive reach of organised crime into everyday life.
Olanrewaju’s commitment to fighting crime signals a determined effort to ensure the safety and security of Lagos residents.
