Poor Knowledge of Law Ruining Nigeria, Says Nnamdi Kanu
The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has condemned the Nigerian judiciary, stating that poor knowledge of the law is destroying the country.
Kanu made this statement on Monday while appearing before Justice Binta Nyako at the Federal High Court for the resumed hearing of his trial.
Justice Nyako indefinitely adjourned the case, a decision reported by DAILY POST.
Earlier, Kanu had requested Nyako’s removal from his trial, expressing a lack of confidence in her ability to deliver justice. Although she initially recused herself, Chief Judge John Tsoho later reassigned the case to her.
On Monday, Kanu pressed Nyako to either reinstate his bail conditions or release him from detention. He insisted that the judge had no jurisdiction to reopen a case she had previously stepped away from.
He argued that Nigerian law does not permit the Chief Judge to direct another judge on how to handle a case.
“Listen, this is the law of Nigeria. The prosecution and this court don’t know the law. That is the fact,” Kanu stated.
“Yes, poor knowledge of the law is killing Nigeria. Poor knowledge of the law; they don’t know the law.
“This is a federal gazetted law of Nigeria that says here that the Chief Judge of Nigeria cannot tell a judge what to do. It’s here, it’s your law. Just obey it.
“That is why I do what I do. I agitate for Biafra. I agitate for Biafra. It’s my right to agitate, it’s my right. They turned it from treasonable felony, now to terrorism.”
