A pregnant woman in labour suffered severe burns after her sister-in-law, 20-year-old Jamila Ishiaku, allegedly poured hot water on her following a heated argument in Dubeli, Yola North, Adamawa State.
The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday, January 27, 2025, leaving the victim in excruciating pain.
Jamila admitted to committing the act out of anger, stating in an interview that she lost control during their disagreement.
The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed her arrest, with Police Public Relations Officer Nguroje assuring that she would face the full weight of the law.
He urged residents to avoid taking matters into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of reporting crimes to the authorities.
“If you see something, say something, and the police will always do something,” Nguroje stated.
The victim’s sister, Nefisat Dahiru, has called on the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband, Gambo Dahiru, expressed deep distress, revealing that his wife remains in severe pain.
“I have been crying for days now. My wife is in pain and has been crying uncontrollably. I am seeking justice for her. The law should take its rightful course,” he pleaded.
Authorities have assured that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.
