Empowering Nigerian Youth: QNET and Ministry Train Over 1,000 in Job Skills
QNET has partnered with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to launch an employability training programme aimed at empowering the nation’s youth. This initiative is a key part of QNET’s “Say No!” campaign, which focuses on combating fake job offers and preventing illegal migration across Africa.
The two-day training, held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, brought together over 1,000 young job seekers. The programme provided essential skills to help participants navigate the job market safely and effectively.
Combatting Job Scams
Biram Fall, QNET’s Regional General Manager, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “We are proud to partner with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in this critical effort,” he said. “With an unemployment rate of 53.4%, it’s crucial to invest in robust training and continuous education. This not only protects individuals from financial loss but also enhances their employability.”
Fall highlighted the challenges QNET faces in West Africa, where scammers use the company’s name to lure youths into fake job offers. He stressed the need for public education to combat these schemes.
“We’ve seen the devastating impact of fake job scams on young people. Education is our best tool to fight this growing threat,” he added.
Ministry’s Commitment to Youth
Miss Augustina Uka, Senior Labour Officer at FMLE, reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to youth empowerment. “Our goal is to enhance the employability of young Nigerians. The National Electronic Labor Exchange (NELEX) project is a key tool in this effort, transforming employment exchanges into a robust database of employable manpower,” she explained.
Uka praised the collaboration with QNET, noting that it aligns with the Ministry’s mission to create a conducive environment for job creation and economic growth.
Real-life Impact
Participants shared their experiences, expressing gratitude for the programme. Akam Comfort Dufang, a trainee, said, “The training taught us valuable skills and helped us understand how to avoid fake job offers. It changed my perception of QNET, which I initially thought was a fraudulent company.”
Another participant recounted narrowly escaping a job scam, where he was asked to pay an upfront fee. He was saved when the scammer was arrested, and he thanked the programme for raising awareness about such dangers.
QNET’s Social Impact
QNET continues to support training programmes that enhance employability among Nigerian youth. Over the past two years, the company’s FinGreen financial literacy programme has equipped over 1,350 Nigerian youths with essential financial skills. QNET also collaborates with agencies like the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) to raise awareness about fake job offers and human trafficking.
Operating through its franchise partner, Transblue Limited, QNET remains committed to making a positive social impact in Nigeria.
