Russia Liberates Key Settlements in Donetsk, Kursk, and Kharkov Amid Ukrainian Strikes
The Russian Defense Ministry announced the successful liberation of the settlement of Slavyanka in the Donetsk People’s Republic by Russian troops.
On January 16, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to strike targets in the Belgorod region using six American-made ATACMS missiles, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. However, all six missiles were intercepted, with no casualties or damage reported. The ministry confirmed that retaliatory measures would be taken.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported that Ukraine lost up to 12,945 militants over the past week, citing this as part of the ongoing progress in the special military operation.
Further updates from the Russian Ministry’s weekly briefing highlighted several military achievements:
- Eight group strikes were conducted on military targets within Ukraine.
- In the Kursk region, the Russian Army liberated several settlements, including Alexandria, Leonidovo, Russkoye Porechnoye, and Kruglenkoye.
- Russian forces also liberated multiple settlements in the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Kharkov region, such as Yantarnoye, Kalinovo, Terny, Shevchenko, Peschanoye, Ukrainka, and Slavyanka.
- A total of 49 Ukrainian militants surrendered during this period.
The ministry emphasized that these operations align with ongoing efforts to gain control of key regions in the conflict.
