Sahel Reporters Publisher Muhammad B Muhammad Emerges Best MA Graduate at AUN
In a moment of pride for the Adamawa media community, Muhammad B. Muhammad, the Publisher of Sahel Reporters, has clinched a Master of Arts Degree in English Language from the prestigious American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola.
He didn’t just bag the degree — he emerged the Best Graduating Master’s Degree Student from the AUN School of Arts and Sciences at this year’s convocation ceremony.
“This journey was tough, rigorous, and full of hurdles,” Muhammad stated. “But it ended successfully.”
His academic feat didn’t come easy. It’s the culmination of long hours of study, perseverance, and critical research — a path that’s not unfamiliar to the renowned journalist and communication specialist.
Muhammad’s time at AUN sharpened his academic edge, transforming him into what he calls a “formidable and accomplished linguistics scholar.” During his program, he authored several cutting-edge research articles published in reputable national and international journals.
Now, he stands tall as an independent researcher, with specialization in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), Media Communication, Health Communication, Critical Discourse Analysis, and Language Teaching Methodology — fields that shape modern communication and pedagogy.
Interestingly, Muhammad had earlier graduated with a First Class Honours degree in English Education from the University of Maiduguri. Yet, he admits AUN wasn’t initially on his radar.
“At first, the thought of studying at AUN never crossed my mind,” he reflected. “But today, I have no regrets. This institution thoroughly prepared me for linguistic scholarship.”
He poured immense praise on AUN’s academic staff. He acknowledged their rich expertise and dedication which, according to him, fueled his academic success.
Among those he thanked include his thesis supervisor Dr. Richard Aworshiri Kamai, along with Dr. Ocheja Attabor, Dr. Moses Christian, Professor Brian Reed, Associate Professor Agatha Ada Ukata, and Professor Robert Tindol.
He also lauded Professor Adewale James, Dean of the Graduate School; Professor Bolade Agboola, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences; Assistant Professor Suleiman Mohammed Gidado, the Postgraduate Coordinator; and Hajiya Hadiza Yusuf, Executive Assistant of the School of Graduate Studies.
Muhammad’s gratitude extended beyond the university. He saluted the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whose administration sponsored his studies.
He also expressed special thanks to Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji, Commissioner of Local Government Affairs; Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary; Hon. Mutari Hamidu Dogo, State Director of PDP Youth Mobilization; and fellow journalists for their constant support throughout his studies.
On a deeply personal note, Muhammad gave heartfelt appreciation to his wife, Maisaratu Muhammad, and his children. “Their patience, prayers, and belief in me have been my pillar of strength,” he said.
His achievement sets a shining example for many young journalists and aspiring scholars in Adamawa and beyond.
He proved that it’s possible to combine leadership in media with academic excellence, and still keep your family close and values intact.
As he steps forward, Muhammad B. Muhammad isn’t just a media publisher. He now wears the hat of a respected academic and linguist — ready to take on new frontiers in research, media, and education.
