A dramatic scene unfolded at the National Assembly on Thursday as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, protested an unauthorized change to her designated seat, disrupting the plenary session.
The session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was in full swing when Chief Whip Senator Mohammed Ali Monguno raised a point of order concerning what he termed an “improper seating position” occupied by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. Before Monguno could finish speaking, the female lawmaker erupted in protest, insisting on an explanation for the sudden alteration of her seat.
Her outburst escalated, leading the Sergeant-at-Arms to intervene in an attempt to remove her from the chamber. However, the defiant senator stood her ground, refusing to be silenced.
“I don’t care if I am silenced. I am not afraid of you. You have denied me my privilege,” she declared, her voice cutting through the chamber.
Efforts by the Senate President to restore order proved challenging as Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan remained resolute in her demand for answers. The heated exchange forced officials to temporarily shut down the public address system to prevent further disruption.
