Shettima Vows Fair Distribution of Palliatives, 19 Trucks of Rice Sent to Kano
Dr. Maryam Shettima, a member of the Presidential Committee on Palliative Distribution, has assured Nigerians that palliatives will be distributed fairly across the country. She emphasised that the government’s strategy prioritises reaching the most vulnerable communities, especially flood victims in the North East and the needy in the North West.
Speaking on Arise Television, Shettima highlighted the broad-based approach of the committee, which includes representatives from different political affiliations to ensure inclusivity in addressing the crisis.
She praised President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to supporting those affected by food shortages, revealing that the administration has launched new agricultural initiatives to mitigate the impact.
Shettima noted that 19 trucks carrying 25 kg bags of rice had already been sent to Kano State as part of the nationwide palliative distribution. “This is just the beginning of the palliative distribution across the nation,” she said.
The initiative, which was launched in Kano by a high-level Federal Government delegation, is chaired by Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin. Shettima expressed her satisfaction with the committee’s efforts, noting that the distribution is not limited to the North West but will extend to all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
She also stressed that the government’s approach is entirely nonpartisan. “It cuts across party affiliations,” she said. “It’s purely for the vulnerable, and it shows the President’s dedication to their welfare.”
Shettima praised the composition of the committee, which includes Senators and House of Representatives members from various parties, such as the NNPP, ensuring transparency and accountability.
She added, “Nothing encourages transparency more than inclusivity. The President is listening to the people, and this quick palliative intervention shows his empathy for the vulnerable in Nigeria.”
Shettima expressed confidence that the measures in place will ensure the palliatives reach those who need them most, not just in Kano but across the entire country.
