In a swift operation on the morning of December 29, 2024, the Adamawa State Police Command tackled a group of notorious Shila gang members who were terrorizing Bishop Street in Yola North.
Acting on credible intelligence, police officers intercepted the gang as they targeted individuals heading to church for early prayers and others commuting for business.
The gang of five launched an unprovoked attack on officers using machetes and knives, attempting to evade arrest.
Despite the resistance, the police subdued the attackers with minimal force, apprehending three suspects while two managed to flee.
Items recovered at the scene include machetes, knives, ATM cards, mobile phones, and a tricycle, all of which are now marked as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
According to a police spokesperson, the injured suspects are receiving medical treatment while providing crucial information to aid the probe.
A concerned resident, John Amos, expressed relief over the police’s action.
“The Shila boys have made our lives miserable. Seeing them arrested is a huge relief,” he said.
The Adamawa State Police Command reassured citizens of its commitment to tackling crime in the region.
