Suntai Airport Begins Flights After Agbu Kefas’ Bold Upgrade
A new chapter has begun for Taraba State as commercial flights officially take off at Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo. Overland Airways made history on Thursday, March 3, 2025, by operating the airport’s first commercial flight after a major transformation.
Governor Agbu Kefas spearheaded the ambitious remodelling and infrastructure upgrade, turning the airport into a modern hub for travel and investment.
Upon landing, Overland Airways’ Flight Operations Manager, Captain Gilbert Sampa, expressed excitement over the achievement. He congratulated the people of Taraba for reaching this milestone, emphasizing that it signals greater economic opportunities for the state.
The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena praised Governor Kefas for his dedication to improving the state. He noted that the airport’s upgrade was a strategic move to attract investors and open the state to the global market.
According to him, the governor’s commitment to security and stability has also been instrumental in the state’s progress.
Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, echoed similar sentiments.
He applauded the governor’s vision, stating that the improved airport would soon facilitate daily flights in and out of the state. He added that more airlines are expected to operate in Taraba soon, further expanding travel options for residents and investors.
Dr. Jeji Williams, Chief of Staff at the Government House, described the airport’s transformation as a game-changer. He revealed that a cargo terminal is already in development, positioning the airport to handle both passenger and freight transport efficiently.
He called on Tarabans to support Governor Kefas in his efforts to drive economic development.
With this major upgrade, Suntai Airport is set to become a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector, bringing increased connectivity, economic growth, and investment opportunities to Taraba State.
