Outrage as Teacher Allegedly Tortures Student in Aliyu Mustafa Academy, Adamawa
Teacher Tortures Student
A brutal case of alleged teacher-student abuse has sparked outrage in Yola, Adamawa State, as 15-year-old Ja’afar Bashiri Tofa, a secondary school student of Aliyu Mustafa Academy, was reportedly tortured by his teacher, leaving him with severe injuries.
The disturbing incident, which occurred on school premises around 11 a.m., has drawn widespread condemnation and prompted a police investigation.
A Betrayal of Trust
School is meant to be a safe space for students to learn and grow, yet for Ja’afar, a routine school day turned into a nightmare when his teacher—whose name has been withheld—allegedly subjected him to excessive corporal punishment for no justifiable reason.
Witnesses claim the student was ruthlessly beaten, leaving visible scars and deep psychological trauma.
Ja’afar’s distraught parents, upon seeing the extent of their son’s injuries, rushed to the school to demand accountability.
They confronted the school’s proprietor, expecting justice, only to face resistance. Shockingly, instead of addressing the serious allegations, the school’s leadership allegedly defended the teacher, refusing to take disciplinary action.
School Authorities Under Fire
The parents, unsatisfied with the school’s response, escalated the matter by reporting the case to the Karewa Police Division.
However, the school’s proprietor reportedly insisted that the teacher should not be arrested or held accountable, further fueling public outrage.
With Ja’afar receiving medical treatment for his injuries, his family and concerned citizens are now demanding justice, calling on the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner for Education, and other relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that the case is not swept under the rug.
Police Investigation Launched
In response to the public outcry, the Adamawa State Police Command has stepped in.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed that Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations has been directed to take over the case and ensure a thorough and impartial probe.
“The Commissioner of Police has frowned upon this unfortunate incident. We urge the public, particularly teachers, to uphold their professional responsibilities and refrain from any form of abuse. Justice must take its course,” SP Nguroje assured.
A Cry for Justice
The case has ignited broader conversations about the safety of students in schools, the unchecked power of teachers, and the need for stricter enforcement of child protection laws in Nigeria.
Parents and advocacy groups are demanding not just justice for Ja’afar but also systemic reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The victim’s family is calling on the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to ensure that no student suffers the same fate.
The authorities must act swiftly to investigate, hold those responsible accountable, and implement measures that will protect students from abuse within educational institutions.
As Ja’afar continues his recovery, the battle for justice intensifies. Will this case serve as a turning point in ending teacher brutality in Nigerian schools, or will it fade into silence like many others before it? The coming days will determine the answer.
