“There is a call for protest, I am not part of it” – Ishaya Inuwa Durkwa
There is a call for protest,
I am not part of it,
I do not know those who are organizing it,
But I have done an extensive study on protest and have written a book to guide how to plan for a successful protest without destruction of lives and properties.
Throughout history, protests have ignited some of the most powerful social movements, exposing injustice, demanding accountability, and inspiring hope for a brighter future.
The Power of Protest
Unity in Pain:
Protests show people that they are not alone in their suffering.
Catalyst for Change:
They can reshape agendas and spark crucial debates.
Voice for the voiceless:
Protests amplify the voices of the marginalized.
True leaders must understand that the essence of protests is to make a difference. The primary goal is to demand change, not to antagonize the government.
Instead of demonizing protests and calling names, leaders should ask themselves:
Why are the people protesting?
Are the reasons for the protest legitimate?
Can they address these reasons before the protests begin?
Why do leaders continuously test the resolve of the people?
The Unstoppable Force
I may not know the organizers or if there are hidden motives behind a protest, but I do know this:
success in protest requires proper planning and clear leadership. Ethnic, regional, and religious sentiments only hinder progress, as seen in the EndSARS protest.
Yet, a day is coming when protests will be unstoppable.
On that day, the people will unite under a common bond stronger than religion, ethnicity, or regionalism.
They will be driven by a shared humanity.
Before religion, region, and ethnicity, we were human. On that day, religion will falter.
Why?
Because hunger, hardship, and suffering bind people together. Hunger will break the chains of religious, ethnic, and regional divisions. It will dismantle the manipulations of elites and the political games that have subjected the people to suffering.
The power of the people is formidable when united by their shared struggles;
Suffering no Ethnicity
Hardship not Regionalism
Pain not Politics
Together, we can protect the protest, demand justice, and create a better future for all.
