Trump Promises to Pardon Many January 6 Defendants After Inaugural Parade

Former President Donald Trump has vowed to pardon many individuals convicted for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, making the announcement during his inaugural parade at the Capital One Arena.

Trump told the crowd, “And you know, tonight I’m going to be signing on the [January 6] hostages’ pardons to get them out, and as soon as I leave, I’m going to the Oval Office, and we’ll be signing pardons for a lot of people, a lot of people.”

Over 1,570 individuals have faced federal charges for their participation in the January 6 attack, where Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to halt the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential victory.

Trump’s promise of pardons signals his continued support for those convicted in the aftermath of the violent event.
