Trump’s Gaza Plan Sparks Outrage: ‘Revives Colonial Legacy’ – Mideast Expert
US President Donald Trump’s proposal to transform Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” by relocating Palestinians has been slammed as “irresponsible and inhumane” by Dr. Tamer Qarmout, an associate professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
Speaking to Sputnik, Qarmout criticized the plan, arguing that it disregards the suffering of Palestinians and ignores their right to remain in their homeland.
“The people of Gaza expected that after all the atrocities, the US would chart a political path to ending the conflict and helping Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction,” he said.

Instead, Trump’s approach mirrors colonial-era policies where powerful nations dictate the fate of others, he warned.
“It’s like you revive colonial legacies and high imperialism, where some countries decide the fate of other countries, of other people,” Qarmout stated.
“This is shocking. And it’s very, very dangerous.”
The proposal has triggered global criticism, with many viewing it as an oversimplification of a deeply rooted geopolitical crisis.
Experts say that any lasting solution must prioritize the rights and sovereignty of the Palestinian people.
