Ugandan opposition leader, and a vocal government critic, Bobi Wine launched a new political party ahead of the 2021 presidential election.

The famous singer and lawmaker, whose true name is Robert Kyagulanyi, has led a party of political pressure known as People Power calling for the retirement of President Yoweri Museveni.

The  National Unity Platform new party has a paraglider as its symbol.

He is calling for a united opposition against Museveni, a U.S. regional security ally who has been leading the East African nation since 1986.

The opposition accuses the 75-year-old Museveni of depending on the armed forces to remain in power.

Several times the lawmaker has been arrested or detained, including on a charge of treason which he denies.

In 2017 Bobi Wine won a seat in parliament as an independent candidate not endorsed by any party.

His reputation was growing as he rejected divisive attempts to extend the rule of Museveni.
