Uncover Naija: A Nationwide Quest to find Nigeria’s Finest Cultural Storytellers

Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage is set to take center stage as to Uncover Naija, a groundbreaking initiative, launches a nationwide hunt for the country’s most talented photographers and videographers.

Powered by Torrista, Sterling Bank’s tourism platform, and supported by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture & Creative Economy, NTDA, and Made by Nigeria (MBN), this competition aims to showcase Nigeria’s beauty, history, and diversity.

Since its launch on October 25, 2024, Uncover Naija has garnered an overwhelming response, with 526 creatives signing up to share their unique perspectives on Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The top 100 submissions have been shortlisted, and public voting begins on November 20, 2024.

Uncover Naija challenges participants to explore Nigeria’s cultural wealth across five categories:

1. Cultural Heritage
2. City Life
3. People & Portraits
4. Breathtaking Landscapes
5. Wildlife & Nature

Each category invites photographers and videographers to capture the unspoken stories of Nigeria’s past and present.

Olamide Adeyemi, head of Torrista, emphasized, “The vision is clear: we want to elevate Nigeria’s image on the global stage through the lens of our people.”

Uncover Naija will award cash prizes to 32 exceptional participants:

• First-place winner: ₦2,500,000
• Second-place winner: ₦1,500,000
• 30 runners-up: ₦150,000 each

A digital gallery will feature the finest submissions, allowing global audiences to appreciate and purchase these captivating images and videos, creating a sustainable revenue stream for participants.

Nkechi Onwuka, representative of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture & Creative Economy, remarked, “By supporting Uncover Naija, we are championing Nigeria’s cultural narratives and celebrating the talents of the photographers and videographers who bring these stories to life.”

Torrista connects Nigerians and tourists with the richness of Nigeria’s heritage through curated tours, unique travel packages, and immersive cultural experiences.

Uncover Naija is more than a competition; it’s a movement to preserve and promote Nigerian culture, empowering creatives to document the spirit of their country while creating economic opportunities.

It was officially launched on October 25, 2024, While Public Voting begins November 20, 2024. And finally the Awards Ceremony will be on December 15, 2024
