We’ll Not Compromise National Security—Interior Minister
Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national security while implementing reforms aimed at enhancing services for Nigerians and investors.
Tunji-Ojo made these remarks during a visit from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), led by its president, Chief Davidson Alaribe.
The Minister highlighted ongoing innovations, including the forthcoming contactless passport renewal system, which will allow Nigerians to renew their passports without physically visiting passport offices.
He acknowledged that while improvements are being made, there remains room for further development in the passport acquisition process.
Tunji-Ojo also emphasised the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with ICAN to further optimise its workforce and service delivery across various agencies under its jurisdiction.
ICAN President Davidson Alaribe praised the Minister’s efforts in modernising Nigeria’s passport offices, making it easier for citizens to access e-passport services.
Alaribe commended the Minister’s leadership in digitising immigration services, reforming the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and enhancing border control and public safety.
The Minister’s push for reforms, particularly in e-passport services and visa processes, has strengthened Nigeria’s international relationships while improving national security and efficiency in government operations.
