Women Group Empowers 48,000 People in Katsina Security Initiative
48,000 People to Benefit as Women Group Launches Bold Security Plan
A women-led organization, the Women Initiative for Northern Nigerian Development (WINNDEV), has launched a bold initiative aimed at enhancing security and empowering 48,000 people across 16 local government areas in Katsina State. The newly unveiled Neighborhood Committee Network (NCN) seeks to equip communities with the tools needed to take charge of their own safety and development.
Speaking at a press conference in Katsina on Wednesday, WINNDEV’s National Coordinator, Zainab Mohammed Sada, emphasized that the program would foster unity, social cohesion, and economic growth. She explained that the initiative would cover all 16 local government areas, including Katsina, Jibia, Funtua, Daura, Dutsinma, Kaita, Bakori, Danmusa, Rimi, Safana, Batagarawa, Kurfi, Kankara, Musawa, Charanchi, Kankia, and Batsari.
According to Sada, 3,000 individuals from each local government, consisting of women, youths, and the less privileged, will undergo training in security awareness and entrepreneurship. The ultimate goal is to make them self-reliant while strengthening the safety of their communities.
“The NCN will serve as a dynamic platform where citizens can unite, exchange ideas, and work together toward a peaceful and prosperous society,” Sada stated. She underscored that the initiative would encourage active citizen participation and ensure that communities are better prepared to tackle security challenges.
As part of the initiative, WINNDEV plans to establish a national secretariat to oversee training programs and facilitate collaborations with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector organizations.
“Our goal is to build stronger, more resilient communities that can not only withstand challenges but also seize opportunities for growth and progress,” she added.
The launch of the NCN is seen as a timely response to the security challenges plaguing many communities in Katsina. With a clear focus on grassroots empowerment, WINNDEV aims to create an environment where residents feel secure and equipped to drive their own development.
