Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has revealed his administration's intention to turn villages in five local government headquarters into cities.

During his humanitarian activities in Mafa on Saturday, Zulum said that communities in Biu, Gubio, Kaga, Mafa, and Monguno have been earmarked in the first step of our urbanisation scheme.

“We have started urbanisation of villages and towns starting with five local government areas. In each, we are building houses that will provide accommodation to civil servants in flats and bungalows. The LGs are Gubio, Biu, Monguno, Kaga and Mafa in the first phase” Zulum said.

The Governor arrived in Mafa on Friday after spending Thursday night in Damasak.

In Mafa, where he spent another night, Zulum paid an unscheduled visit to the general hospital on Friday night, where he met some committed health staff, including an Igbo woman, Mrs. Mabel Ijeoma from Anambra State, who had been working there for 15 years and who, along with others, received a N200,000 gift from the Governor.

The Governor oversaw the delivery of food and cash to 9,400 internally displaced families on Saturday.

Each of the 3,500 male recipients received a bag of rice, a bag of maize grits, and cash, while the 5,900 female recipients received a wrapper, two sugar packets, and cash.

Governor Zulum then toured a drip and sprinkler irrigation system, a skills training center, a shopping complex, and a motor park with 150 market stalls, among other ongoing programs.

Residents were later addressed by Zulum, who urged them to take advantage of the holy month of Ramadan by praying for the restoration of peace to Borno and the entire nation.

“I kindly call upon all of you to intensify in your prayers this holy month of Ramadan, let all of us devote ourselves in prayers for peace to return to our state and the country” Zulum urged.

The Governor also thanked the North East Development Commission for assisting the State Government in its endeavors.
